Driven by the passion for African Storytelling and African stories. Covenant Nsa is building and growing a multifaceted brand, Nke Africa which aims to tell authentic stories of African women leveraging digital media. She’s a thriving 21 year old Changemaker from Cross River State, Nigeria.
Covenant has a professional background in Social Media Management, Content Marketing, Storytelling and Communications.
How did she start Nke Africa?
Growing up, she heard stories of popular men and rarely heard stories about thriving African women. Up until when she needed to pick a role model, she really wanted to have a female role model however there was no one she could find until she discovered Chimamanda in her early teens.
“I feel like girls don’t have a lot of options because stories of women doing amazing stuffs that may interest them are not readily available” – Covenant Nsa
With this background and belief, she was inspired to begin Nke Africa. She feels that there are a lot of stories embedded in African women that the world needs to hear. However most people don’t get to hear them. Fueled by this passion to share the unique and authentic stories of African women and storytelling in general resulted in the birth of Nke Africa.
It started one random day in October. She texted her friends, got an iPhone and started interviewing her friends.
She started mostly with her friends and then progressed with other people who weren’t her friends. She shared the amazing stories and strides of her friends on the YouTube Channel of Nke Africa.
Covenant Nsa has been able to grow and build Nke Africa to a great level where they now have a YouTube Channel, the first edition of the Nke Magazine launched and a workforce of over 20 passionate volunteers who have been driving and pushing tirelessly for the growth of the brand.
With Nke Africa’s YouTube channel Covenant hosts amazing interviews, where she interviews young amazing women who are doing awesome things in their different fields. The Nke Magazine celebrates young women in Africa and offers several opportunities for women to grow and become relevant.
Her journey hasn’t been one without hurdles however her consistency and courage has led her through it relentlessly.
Covenant faced different challenges, one of which was the challenge of starting.
In her words, I didn’t have the full picture but I just decided to start.
Also, having to deal with worry and fear of when the breakthrough moment will be was living rent-free in her head. She lost her camera and went 3-4 months without filming. The high cost of filming materials and equipments also was a major challenge that really limited her.
Moving on, Covenant has thrived despite these challenges to ensure that the stories of African women are shared and lives are greatly impacted. Her resilience, determination and passion is very inspiring.
She got nominated for The Social Changemakers in Digital Media Awards. It was a great honour for her and Nke Africa to be nominated along side other amazing young people. A testament that people celebrate and love the good work she’s doing with Nke Africa.
Covenant Nsa looks forward to growing, reaching and impacting more people. She wants to celebrate and inspire young African women who are setting the pace for greatness. With Nke Africa, she looks forward to leveraging and celebrating the power of African storytelling.
Here’s her greatest advice to young and thriving changemakers,
“Keep doing. Make sure your intentions are clear. Let your passion drive you, do it no matter what. No matter whether you get the recognitions or not. Keep impacting lives. Keep fostering change. This is what matters, ultimately.
